Did you know that French is the 5th most widely spoken language in the world, the official language of 32 States and governments, and counts almost 321 million speakers?
March is Francophone Month, in which the French Language and diverse francophone cultures through activities held worldwide.
The Alliance Francaise of Guyana is proud to share the cultural programme for March 2025, which highlights art, film, and gastronomy. This year we are organizing the 1st edition of a Francophone foodfest!

Film Screening: Corazon de Mezquite
Lucia is a young girl whose biggest dream is to play the harp because musicians are considered the guardians of traditions. Her father Fidel is a harpist. but customs dictate that females are not allowed to play this instrument. In spite of all this, her grandfather teaches her secretly. When a series of unfortunate events unfold just before a big community celebration, will Lucie finally be given her big break?

Art Exhibition: Women’s Day Edition
In honor of International Women’s Day and Francophone Month, we collaborated with the Guyana Women’s Artists Association (GWAA) and Ms Pekahiah James, to curate artworks of female artists from Guyana and French speaking countries in the Caribbean. Join us for drinks and chat with this amazing group of women about their work.

Film Screening: Ma Dame au Camelia
Patrice is a forty year old actor, desperately seeking work. When an opportunity arises to audition for the lead role of a film adaptation of the French classic, <<My Lady of the Camellias>>, he decides he has nothing to lose. Though since antiquity, it is not uncommon for males to play female roles in theatre, is he pushing his luck in trying to be cast for the modern film adaptation?
Join us to discuss this and more after the screening of this beautiful short film from French Guiana with members of the production team. Facilitated by Georgetown Film Festival.

Learn to cook sweet & savoury French pies with Chef Paul Saul
In this workshop led by a professional pastry chef, you will first learn how to make a good shortcrust pastry, or <<pate brisee>> which forms the base of the two recipes. On the menu :
a vegetarian quiche and a tarte tatin (upside down apple pie) for dessert! Children are welcome!
